The Effect of Freshwater Cooling System Leak on Main Air Compressor at KM.Tanto Raya

Main Air Compressor is a device that facilitates the conversion of engine power, usually electric motors, diesel engines, or locomotive engines into kinetic energy by compressing air. On board KM Tanto Raya has experienced a leakage problem in the fresh water cooling cylinder head main air compressor during the motion process. This can endanger the main engine or other auxiliary engines, especially the main air compressor itself. The purpose of this study is to determine the causal factors, impacts, and efforts of cooling fresh water leakage on the cylinder head of the main air compressor. This research uses a qualitative approach, with a descriptive approach research type. The results obtained are the packing used is not appropriate, the type of gasket used is not appropriate, the lack of maintenance of the air cooler and the mixing of oil and fresh water in the charter so as to cause the main air compressor to leak, leakage and damage to the high pressure valve, main air compressor over heat and cause corrosion as for efforts to deal with that is replacing the original packing, using gaskets with its type of running maintenance with regular replacement of new oil main air compressor, to achieve optimal results and work optimally main air compressor requires attention in maintenance and repair in order to help the smooth operation of the ship and the main air compressor itself.
