Abstract

The movement of the ship bobbing or up and down on the high seas caused by large and continuous waves can cause symptoms of headache, dizziness, nausea and even vomiting which is often termed sea sickness or motion sickness. On LNG ships, this condition becomes an important requirement that must be considered in the design process. In this study, a study was conducted on the results of calculations and simulations of the vertical acceleration of the LNG ship movement so that the ship's performance can be seen on the comfort of shipping. Comfort is seen from a certain period by referring to the ISO-2631/1997 standard. Calculations and simulations are carried out at several points on the ship to see the vertical acceleration that occurs, using different sea states, speeds, and direction of wave angles. From the simulation results obtained the influence of the measurement location, duration and direction of the waves on the percentage of the number of passengers who experience symptoms of seasickness or motion sickness incidence (MSI). This is an accurate prediction and reference in considering the level of passenger comfort at this initial design stage
